General Ultrasound

General ultrasound includes imaging of the abdomen, kidneys, liver, gallbladder, spleen, pancreas, ovaries, cervix, uterus along with the thyroid, testicles and other small parts.

In general it is requested that you do not eat or drink for 6 hours prior to an abdominal exam, however instructions will be given to you at the time of your examination being scheduled.  In certain cases you may be asked to drink a large amount of water before an exam.

As in all ultrasound, there are no known side effects and ultrasound does not use radiation. In most cases ultrasound is painless, however depending on the size of the individual pressure is applied to achieve the best images possible.
